Cancun - A Great Place To Visit
Mexico is a beautiful country with a rich history and culture. Cancun is a small coastal town located on the eastern side of Mexico. The area was first inhabited by the Mayans about 1500 years ago. Cancun was founded in the mid 1800's as a resort town for the wealthy. In the 1920's it was made into a state, but lost its status after the Mexican Revolution. Known for its warm tropical climate, the beaches are clean and the water is very clear making the area popular with a large number of diving and snorkeling locations available.
The town is divided into two sections. The first section is called "Old Town" and the second section is called "New Town." Located along the beach, Old Town is full of shops, restaurants, hotels, and other tourist minded businesses. Located inland, New Town contains more residential homes and is much quieter than Old Town.
There are many different activities to do in Cancun. Some of these activities include golfing, fishing, scuba diving, boating, shopping, and sight seeing. The most popular tourist attraction is the Hotel Zone. This area contains a large number of hotels and restaurants. Another popular attraction is the Museo Maya museum that contains artifacts from the Mayan civilization. Other popular attractions of cultural and historical significance include the Cenote de Agua Azul, the Chichen Itza ruins, and the Tulum ruins which contain Mayan ruins, pyramids, and temples.
