Mexico is a beautiful country with a rich history and culture. Cancun is a small coastal town located on the eastern side of Mexico. The area was first inhabited by the Mayans about 1500 years ago. A Brief History Of The Cancun Jazz Festival
The Cancun Jazz Festival is a three day event that has been held in Cancun since the year 2000. The festival takes place at the Plaza de Toros in Cancun and features a wide variety of music genres including Latin, Americana, R&B, Hip Hop, Reggae, Jazz, Rock, Blues, Gospel, and Folk. The festival has featured an international lineup of performers from around the world.
The first Cancun Jazz Festival was sponsored by the Mexican government. The festival was held for two days in the month of September and featured performances from artists like Al Jarreau, George Benson, Joe Henderson, Chucho Valdes, Bobby McFerrin, Wynton Marsalis, Warren HIll and many others. Since then, the festival has continued to grow every year with more artists coming from around the world to perform at the event.
In 2005, the festival moved to the Plaza de Toros in the heart of Cancun. This location was chosen because it was the perfect place to showcase the talents of some of the most famous jazz musicians in the world.
In 2006, the festival featured performances by the likes of Branford Marsalis, Diana Krall, Herbie Hancock, and many other well known artists. In 2007, the festival added a new jazz category to its program featuring the talents of local artists.
In 2008, the festival was renamed the "Jazz Festival of Cancun" and expanded to a three day event which now features more than 200 different artists performing over the course of three days. The festival has become so popular that tickets are often sold out months in advance.
